Getting Down to Business: Hiring People with Disabilities
Background: In 2016, the South Dakota Retailers Association (SDRA) was one of three business organizations in the nation selected to participate in a pilot project aimed at increasing workplace inclusion of people with disabilities. Through this program, called "Getting Down to Business" SDRA partnered with the South Dakota Department of Human Services, South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation, and the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) to provide information to employers. The project included establishing a pilot internship program, seminars, webinars, a brochure, articles about businesses that employ people with disabilities, and beginning work on an employer resource guide. At the conclusion of the pilot project, ODEP asked SDRA to produce a video featuring South Dakota retail businesses that employ people who have disabilities. This video is the result.
